Box Score Oct. 11, 2014 Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals are proving there is truth to the old adage "There's no place like home."
The Lady Cardinals remained unbeaten at home this season with a 3-0 victory over Incarnate Word in a Southland Conference women's volleyball match at McDonald Gym on Saturday. Lamar won by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-20.
Cortney Moore led Lamar (3-14 overall, 3-2 Southland) with 13 kills. Chelsea Grant had eight kills and seven blocks, while Autumn Taylor had eight kills and seven digs as Lamar moved to 3-0 at home. Moore's 13th kill of the day proved to be the clinching point of the match.
"We showed some resiliency today," Lamar coach Alan Edwards said. "We have to learn to be the aggressor. We have to learn to choke people out."
The Lady Cardinals held a 23-19 lead in the second set before Incarnate Word (5-14, 1-5) ran off four straight points to tie the set at 23. The Lady Cardinals bounced back with the final two points to win the set. Lamar raced out to an 8-1 lead in the third set, and never trailed the rest of the way.
Angelique Vidaurri led Incarnate Word with eight kills and six blocks.
The Lady Cardinals will have to wait a while before they get a chance to extend their home winning streak. Lamar opens a four-match road swing at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sam Houston State. The Lady Cardinals also have away matches at Central Arkansas, Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin before returning home to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. Oct. 30.
