SAN MARCOS, Texas - Jenna Plumley set the Lamar record for career 3-pointers as she powered the Lady Cardinals to a 93-76 win over host Texas State in a Southland Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening.
Plumley drained eight treys on the day to give her 191 for her tenure at Lamar, surpassing the mark of 188 set by Brenda Hatchett, who played for Lamar from 1990 through 1992. Plumley finished the game with a career-high 36 points, eclipsing her previous standard of 35 set just four days earlier at Sam Houston State.
Plumley also had eight assists, four steals and a career high two blocked shots as Lamar (24-5 overall, 13-2 SLC) set the stage for Saturday's 1 p.m. showdown at McNeese State for the top seed for the upcoming State Farm Southland Conference Tournament. A win would give Lamar at least a share of the Southland Conference regular-season title, and make the Lady Cards the No. 1 seed in the tournament by virtue of holding the tiebreaker advantage over McNeese State.
"We are going to play for at least part of a conference championship," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "It should be a great game."
Kalis Loyd had her team-best sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 10 blocks. Trashanna Smith had 15 points, while Monique Whittaker added 14 points.
Lamar trailed 48-44 at halftime, but outscored the Bobcats 49-28 after intermission to run its winning streak to eight games.
"One of the keys to the game was that we stepped it up defensively in the second half," Tidwell said. "Ang Green played really well on defense in the second half."
Kelsey Krupa led Texas State (9-19, 4-11) with 17 points. Demi Clinch and Diamond Ford added 15 points apiece.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live on KLVI (560 AM). There will be no television coverage.
