EL PASO, Texas - The Lamar University women's basketball team fell victim to the red-hot UTEP Miners, dropping an 81-52 decision in a non-conference game Thursday night.
Taylor Hays, Ang Green and Monique Whittaker all had nine points apiece for Lamar (5-4), but the Lady Cardinals were the latest victim of the unbeaten Miners (7-0).
"We ran into a very good team tonight," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "But I saw some positive things. We're going to make some adjustments, and we're going to get better."
UTEP's depth was a prevalent factor in the game. The Miners had 13 players score at least one point in the game, and the Miner's bench outscored Lamar's starters 43-26.
Melisa Mendes was the only UTEP player to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points. The Miners held a 52-30 rebounding edge.
Kalis Loyd added seven points for Lamar, which played the fifth of eight consecutive games away from the Montagne Center.
The Miners held a 39-21 edge at halftime and led by as many as 36 in the second half.
"It's tough to win on the road, but we're going to bounce back," Tidwell said. "We'll be ready for TCU on Sunday."
Lamar will be at TCU for a non-conference game at 1 p.m. Sunday. The game will be aired live on LamarCardinals.com.
