Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Cards fall to IUPUI

Nov. 27, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Ria Pateraki and Shauna Long both had career days for the Lamar University women's basketball team, but their efforts weren't enough in a 61-34 loss to IUPUI in the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off Classic on Sunday.

Pateraki had a career-high 10 points, while Long matched her career bests with 10 points and four rebounds, but Lamar (5-3) struggled offensively against the Jaguars (3-3). Lamar was 12-of-48 (25 percent) from the field for the game, including a 4-of-17 (23.5 percent) performance in the second half. The 34 points were the fewest scored by the Lady Cardinals since Larry Tidwell became the coach at the start of the 2007-08 season.

The Lady Cardinals never led in the game, and trailed 42-21 at intermission. IUPUi led by as many as 33 points in the second half as it cruised to the win.

Kerah Nelson had 22 points to lead the Jaguars. Katie Comello had 17 points and Nevena Markovic came off the bench to add 14 points for IUPUI.

Long, Monique Whittaker and Kalis Loyd had four rebounds apiece to top Lamar.

The Lady Cardinals return to action at 8:05 p.m. Thursday with a non-conference game at UTEP.

That game will be broadcast live on LamarCardinals.com.
