Lamar loses to Arkansas State in five games

Tulsa, Okla. - - For the second straight day, Lamar and Arkansas State battled in a five-set volleyball match at the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational with the Red Wolves pulling out the victory in both contests.

The Lady Cardinals fell to 0-3 for the tournament and 3-6 overall on the season, while former conference foe ASU improved to 4-5. Lamar University will play its first home match of the season on Friday when the Lady Cards take on McNeese State at 7 in the Lamar Invitational.

Lamar captured the first set 25-23 before ASU won the next two by scores of 25-19 and 25-10. The Lady Cardinals pulled out a 25-23 win in the fourth set, but came up short in the final set by a score of 15-11.

For the third straight tournament, sophomore middle blocker Jayme Bazile was named to the all-tournament team. Bazile finished with nine kills and eight block assists against the Red Wolves.

Sophomore outside hitter Cynthia McCollum led the Lady Cards with 12 kills and Tina Hobbs chipped in with 11. Lamar, which played without injured starter Megan Schwartz, got 17 digs from Bailey Smith.

Cayla Fielder finished with19 kills and a .308 attack percentage to lead the Red Wolves. Three other ASU players finished with at least 10 kills.
