EDINBURG - True freshman Megan McStravick picked up a season-high 10 kills, and sophomore middle blocker Jayme Bazile added nine, but Lamar University fell to Idaho State 3-1 in its final volleyball match at the UTPA Fall Classic.   Lamar, which fell to 0-3 on the season, will look for its first win on Friday against St. Francis (PA) at the Cornell Invitational from Ithaca, New York.
ISU won the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-19 before the Lady Cardinals fought back. Lamar, which hit just .096 as a team for the match, was a solid .237 in a 25-20 set three victory. The Bengals closed out the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth set.
Lamar's blocking continues to be a positive as the Lady Cardinals finished with nine total team blocks in the match. Redshirt sophomore Tina Hobbs recorded a block solo and six blocks assists, sophomore Wendy Krell added five block assists and Bazile, who was named to the all-tournament team, finished with three.
ISU setter Lori Mendenhall played a solid all-around match, finishing with six kills, 43 assists, five service aces and 12 digs. Two Bengals finished with at least 11 kills.
