Lamar's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven

Feb. 3, 2010

CONWAY, Ark. - Kalis Loyd's fifth double-double of the season wasn't enough for the Lamar University women's basketball team in a 92-77 loss to Central Arkansas in a Southland Conference game Wednesday night.

Loyd had 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Jenna Plumley added 21 points and six assists for Lamar (17-5 overall, 7-1 SLC), which had its seven-game winning streak snapped.

Megan Herbert had her 21st consecutive double-double for Central Arkansas (16-5, 6-2), which ran its winning streak to six games.

Darika Hill had 11 points for the Lady Cardinals, who committed a season-high 28 fouls. Central Arkansas capitalized on the Lamar fouls, outscoring Lamar 35-7 from the free-throw line. Central Arkansas' 35 free throws made and 45 attempted were season highs by a Lamar opponent.

Lamar, which trailed 48-42 at halftime, got as close as three points in the second half, but were never able to get the lead as the Sugar Bears sealed the win at the free-throw line by going 20-of-27 in the second half, while Lamar went 0-of-2 when Plumley missed a pair with 1:14 remaining in the game.

"We have to do a better job on defense," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "I'm not going to blame the officials."

Lamar returns to action at 6 p.m. Saturday with a conference game at Stephen F. Austin. That game will be broadcast live on the Lamar athletics Web site: www.lamarcardinals.com.
