TEMPE, Ariz. - Jenna Plumley reached the 1,000-point mark for her collegiate career and added a career-high eight steals, but it wasn't enough for the Lamar University women's basketball team in a 64-58 loss to New Mexico in the first round of the ASU Classic on Friday night.
Plumley had 11 points to give her 1,006 for a career that includes two years at Oklahoma before she came to Lamar. Plumley also had five assists for Lamar (5-3), which has lost two straight following a five-game winning streak.
Monique Whittaker led Lamar in scoring with 20 points. Trashanna Smith had seven rebounds for the Lady Cardinals, while Whittaker, Plumley and Danielle Heithoff finished with six apiece.
Porche Torrance had a double-double for New Mexico (5-2), finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Tina Doughty added 10 points for the Lobos.
Lamar will look to avoid its first three-game losing streak since the 2008-09 season when it meets Cal Poly in the consolation game at 3 p.m. (Central) Saturday. Cal Poly (2-3) dropped a 69-58 decision to host Arizona State in Friday's other first-round game.
Saturday's game can be heard live on the official Web site of the Lamar athletic department: www.LamarCardinals.com.
