NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Lamar University's Grace Bowman scored her first goal of the season, but the Lady Cardinals dropped a 3-1 decision to host Stephen F. Austin in a Southland Conference women's soccer game Friday night.
Bowman scored on a direct kick from 25 yards out 2ith 10:02 remaining in regulation to spoil the shutout bid of Stephen F. Austin's Courtney Bauder. That cut the SFA lead to 3-1, but Lamar could draw no closer.
Lamar goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs saw her shutout string end at a school-record 306 minutes, 59 seconds when SFA's Laura Sadler scored her fifth goal of the season at the 34:57 mark of the opening half. Jordan King and Janae Lee also scored for the Ladyjacks (9-3-1 overall, 2-0-1 SLC).
Gibbs made three saves for Lamar (4-7-1, 2-1-0), which had its unbeaten streak end at three games.
Lamar returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday with a conference game at Sam Houston State. The Lady Cardinals' next home game is 7 p.m. Oct. 15 against Texas State.
