Lamar blanked by Bearkats

Oct. 10, 2010

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - An early penalty-kick goal proved to be costly to the Lamar University women's soccer team in a 2-0 Southland Conference loss at Sam Houston State on Sunday.

Kirby Zak beat Lamar goalkeeper on the penalty kick at the 18:21 mark to give the Bearkats the lead for good. Natalie Johnson scored an insurance goal with 15 minutes remaining to salt the game away for Sam Houston State (6-8-1 overall, 2-2-0 SLC).

Gibbs made four saves for Lamar (4-8-1, 2-2-0), which dropped its second straight game. Angie Guillory led Lamar's offense with three shots, two of them on goal. Jenny Pence made five saves for Sam Houston State.

The Lady Cardinals return home for a pair of Southland Conference games next weekend at the Lamar Soccer Complex. Lamar will host Texas State at 7 p.m. Friday and UTSA at 2 p.m. Sunday.
