Lady Cards fall in double OT

Oct. 24, 2010

CONWAY, Ark. - Despite controlling most of the game, the Lamar University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in double overtime to host Central Arkansas in a Southland Conference game Sunday.

Lamar outshot Central Arkansas 21-8 for the game, including a 19-4 edge in regulation, but failed to get a shot past Central Arkansas goalkeeper Kelsey Gochnauer, who made four saves. The Lady Cardinals (4-10-3 overall, 2-4-2 SLC) have been held scoreless for 368 minutes, 59 seconds since Lorna Maudslay scored in the second half of a 1-1 tie with Texas State on Oct. 15.

Julia Foerster scored the game-winner for Central Arkansas (6-7-3, 2-3-2) at the 5:00 mark of the second overtime period when she scored on a rebound off a corner kick. Jennifer Gibbs made four saves for Lamar.

Maudslay had eight shots for Lamar, with two of those recorded as shots on goal.

Lamar closes out the regular season when it hosts McNeese State at 7 p.m. Friday on Senior Night at the Lamar Soccer Complex. Lamar is still alive for one of the six spots in the Southland Conference Tournament, but would most likely need a win against McNeese State and help from some other teams.
