BEAUMONT, Texas - Maria Jose Rojas scored early in the second overtime period to lift UTSA to a 1-0 victory over Lamar in a Southland Conference women's soccer game Sunday.
Rojas picked up a loose ball in front of the Lamar net and managed to get a shot past Lamar goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs, who had been stellar in goal all afternoon for the Lady Cardinals. Gibbs finished the game with nine saves. Allison Dillon was credited with an assist on the goal, which came 1:42 into the second overtime session.
Dacia Webb picked up the shutout for UTSA (9-5-1 overall, 4-0-1 SLC).
Lamar (4-9-2, 2-3-1) had a chance to win in it at the end of regulation, but Angie Guillory just missed on a header attempt in the final minute.
Lamar returns to action with a pair of conference road games next weekend. The Lady Cardinals, who are in the hunt for one of the six spots in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament, will be at Northwestern State at 4 p.m. Friday and at Central Arkansas at 1 p.m. Oct. 24 before closing out the regular season by hosting McNeese State at 7 p.m. Oct. 29.
