Hill's Buzzer-Beater Lifts Lady Cards Over McNeese State

Jan. 16, 2010

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Darika Hill's 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Lamar University women's basketball team a 68-65 win over host McNeese State in a Southland Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon.

Hill's game-winner capped another come-from-behind win for the Lady Cardinals (13-4 overall, 3-0 conference), who battled back from a 10-point deficit one game after battling back from a 15-point deficit in a win over UT Arlington.

Lamar had five people score in double figures, led by Brittney Williams and Kalis Loyd with 13 points apiece. Hill and Jenna Plumley had 12 points apiece for Lamar, while Ang Green added 10 points.

Williams now has 1,375 points for her career putting her into sole possession of third place on Lamar's all-time scoring list.

Kiara Johnson had a double-double for McNeese State (4-11, 0-2), finishing with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Kendra Wells had a game-high 17 points for the Cowgirls.

"McNeese State is a good team, they gave us quite a battle," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "We had a tough game Wednesday with a long bus ride, then had to go back on the road. But every conference win is a good win, especially on the road."

Lamar returns to action at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference game at the Montagne Center.
