WACO, Texas - Baylor scored two goals in a 14-minute span early in the second half to pull away and defeat Lamar 3-0 at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 0-2 on the season after their 3-2 double-overtime decision at Louisiana tech on Friday.
Lamar managed just two shots on the day, with both coming on goal and off the foot of junior midfielder Kari Davila. Unfortunately Baylor goalkeeper Courtney Seelhorst, who split time in goal with starter Gianna Quintanna, stopped both balls.
Baylor scored first when Hanna Gilmore found Christine Clark in the box in the 21st minute where she beat LU's Jennifer Gibbs on the near post to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
The Bears scored the first of their second-half goals just 3:53 into the period when Lotto Smith found Gilmore in the center of the box for a header and a 2-0 advantage.
Gilmore completed the scoring with her second goal of the contest off a Dana Larsen through-ball at the 63:27 mark.
Gibbs made a career-high 10 saves in the game and the sophomore now has 63 in her brief career to move into second place all-time at Lamar.
Lamar was outshot 26-2, including a 13-2 margin on goal.
Lamar will return to action next Sunday, Aug. 30, when it returns to Waco to face North Dakota State. Kickoff at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field is set for 11 a.m.
