WACO, Texas - Jenna Plumley scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Lamar University women's basketball team to its fifth consecutive win, a 68-56 decision over the Idaho Vandals in the second round of the World Vision Classic at Baylor University on Saturday.
Kalis Loyd had 13 points for Lamar (5-1). Trashanna Smith had nine points and nine rebounds and Brittney Williams added nine points for the Lady Cardinals, who led by as many as 15 points.
"We played hard," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "We shot the ball well and played good defense."
Lamar shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) for the game, including 52.5 percent (10-of-19) from 3-point range. Meanwhile, Lamar held Idaho to just 36.1 percent (22-of-61) from the field.
Lamar held a 37-31 lead at halftime, thanks in large part to Plumley, who had 15 points in the opening half.
With her nine points, Williams moved ahead of Sandra Thomas for sixth place on Lamar's all-time scoring list with 1,275 points. LaToya Carson is fifth with 1,352 points,
Lamar returns to action at 2:30 p.m. Sunday when it takes on eighth-ranked Baylor on the final day of the World Vision Classic.
"We're looking forward to it," Loyd said. "We know Baylor is a good team and will be a big challenge for us," The game will be broadcast live on Lamar's athletic Web site www.lamarcardinals.com.
Lamar's next home game is set for 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2 against Huston-Tillotson at the Montagne Center.
