FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Lamar shortstop Travis Dunson and Southeastern Louisiana starting pitcher Josh Black claimed their first weekly honors of the season, marking two consecutive weeks a Lamar player has claimed weekly honors.
Dunson hit .545 with a .583 on-base pct. and saw his batting average climb .64 points in leading Lamar to a sweep of SFA - the first by the Cardinals since sweeping SHSU in April of 2006. The LU senior from The Colony, Texas, had two hits in each of Lamar's three games to bring his multi-hit games total to four this season and scored the game-winning run in Friday's 7-4 win. He has hit safely in five-consecutive games and nine of the last 11 and was perfect in 16 chances at shortstop.
This marks the first league honor for Dunson and the second-consecutive week a Cardinal has been honored, following pitcher Tim Erickson's Pitcher of the Week accolade last week.
Lamar will be back in action on Tuesday when it plays host to Texas-Pan American in a doubleheader at Vincent-Beck Stadium at 3 p.m.
