Lamar Falls To Sam Houston State, 18-7

EDINBURG, Texas - Bobby Verbick went 3-for-5 with three home runs to lead Sam Houston State past Lamar, 18-7, at the Al Ogletree Classic on Saturday.

The Bearkats jumped out to a 7-0 lead and chased Cardinal starter Justin Walker from the game after facing just 18 batters. Walker allowed seven earned runs on eight hits and struck out one.

SHSU added six more runs off relievers Jim Nieschouski and Matt Gore before the Cards started their comeback.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lamar got a pair of 3-run home runs from Tyler Link and Ryan Saldivar. An Anthony Moore RBI single to right got the Cardinals on the board.

While the offense banged out 11 hits, they managed just two hits over the final four innings.

Lamar will be conclude play on Sunday against Illinois. First pitch is set for 9 a.m.
