Lamar Plays UCA To 2-2 Draw In Conway

Oct. 10, 2008

CONWAY, Ark. -- Aline Pugliesi and Stefani Turner recorded the first multi-point games in school history as Lamar battled Central Arkansas to a 2-2 draw at Farris Field on Friday afternoon.

Lamar (2-7-1, 0-2-1 Southland) managed a tie in its first-ever overtime contest and scored twice on three total shots on goal. UCA (2-6-1, 0-1-1 Southland) held a 20-9 margin in total shots.

April Davis put UCA up 1-0 with an unassisted goal at the 35:27 mark. Pugliesi tied the game up on a pass from Turner just over three minutes later. It was Pugliesi's team-leading third goal of the season.

As the contest progressed and the game clock moved past the 80th minute it appeared to be headed towards overtime knotted at 1-1 before the teams combined for two more goals in a span of 61 seconds.

This time Turner was the beneficiary of a Pugliesi ball and gave Lamar a 2-1 lead at the 81:52 point. But UCA came right back thanks to a Kayla Wolff goal with 7:07 remaining in regulation.

In the first overtime, LU goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs came up huge when she dove and stopped a UCA penalty kick by Aly Murray to preserve the game at 2-2.

UCA outshot Lamar 5-0 in the two 10-minute overtime periods.

Gibbs made seven saves in goal.

Lamar will travel to Northwestern State for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday in Natchitoches, La.
