Lamar Women Fall 91-54 to Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Lamar University women's basketball team could not find their touch offensively Monday night, falling to Oklahoma State 91-54 at Gallagher Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla.

Lamar falls to 1-1 on the year with the loss, while Oklahoma State improved to 2-0 with the victory. The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Thursday night in Austin, Texas when they take on the University of Texas at 7 p.m.

Trailing 38-22 at halftime, the Lady Cardinals opened the second half on a 9-2 run to close within nine points at 31-40 with 17:53 to play. The Cowgirls however, responded with a run of their own over the next six and half minutes, opening up 20 point lead at 59-39 with 11:08 to play.

The Lady Cardinals could not overcome the 20-point deficit down the stretch of the game, as they could not find their touch offensively. Oklahoma State gradually built on their in the final 11 minutes, closing out the game 91-54.

The Cowgirls put early pressure on Lamar, jumping out to a double digit lead in the first seven minutes of play. Forced to play from behind, the Lady Cardinals turned the ball over 12 times in the opening 20 minutes, leading to a 16 point halftime deficit at 38-22.

The Cowgirls were led by Taylor Hardeman's 14 points on six of seven shooting in the first half, while Andrea Riley chipped in with nine points. Nikki Williams led the way for Lamar in the first half, scoring six points.

Brittney Williams led the way for Lamar offensively with 12 points, while Nikki Williams chipped in with 11 points. For the second straight game Aida Bakhos came up big in the boards for LU, pulling down 10 rebounds.

The Lady Cardinals shot just 28.4 percent from the field for the game, making 19 of their 67 shots, while knocking down just one of their 16 three point attempts. Adding to their shooting struggles was 21 turnovers, 13 of which came in the form of OSU steals. In the rebounding battle, Oklahoma State narrowly edged LU 49 to 47.

The Cowgirls were led by Andrea Riley, who scored a game-high 19 points, picked up seven steals and passed out six assists. Hardeman finished the game with 16 points, Maria Cordero had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Shaunte' Smith had 10 points.
