Lamar Falls at Home to Nebraska, 4-0

Oct. 12, 2007

BEAUMONT - Despite turning in one of its best overall performances of the year, Lamar University found itself on the short end of a 4-0 decision to the University of Nebraska in non-conference women's soccer action Friday evening at Cardinal Stadium.

Lamar drops to 0-11-0 on the season while Nebraska improved to 5-5-3. The Lady Cardinals will return to Southland Conference action Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at McNeese State, who is the reigning SLC Tournament champion.

Trailing 3-0 at halftime, Lamar's defense tightened up and allowed the Huskers just one tally in the second half. That impressive effort didn't go unnoticed by first-year Lamar coach Matthew Dillon.

"That (2nd half) was a great half," said Dillon. "We gave it everything we had and I'm really proud of my team. That's as good a half against a quality opponent has we have played all season.

"We were in the game for all 90 minutes. We did not have as many shots or shots on goal as I would have liked, but we played hard and did a better job of possessing the ball.

"Nebraska is a good team and plays in one of the best soccer conferences in the country. They are young this season and aren't where they want to be, but they are still a quality team."

Carly Peetz started the scoring for the Huskers with the game's first goal at 9:47 of the opening half. Sari Raber picked up the assist with a nice centering pass. Anna White scored the second goal on a header off a corner kick by Selenia Iacchelli at 29:55.

Jaclyn White made it 3-0 with a goal at 39:41. Michaella Fulmer passed the ball ahead to White, who put the ball in the back right corner of the net from the left side of the box.

Fulmer closed out the scoring with a goal at 66:23 of the second half. Alexa Cardona picked up the assist with a nice centering pass.

Nebraska out shot Lamar 44 to three, including 22-2 in shots on goal. Raber led the Huskers with seven shots and Jaclyn White added six shots, including a team-best four on goal. Carrie Mrazek and Aline Pugliesi each had a shot on goal for the Lady Cardinals, and Keally Nussle also had a shot.

Kelsie Binetti, a freshman from Lumberton, made a season-high 18 saves for Lamar. Brittany Pfeil made two saves for Nebraska.

"Kelsie played a great game and made some really good saves," said Dillon. "She made a lot of reaction saves. She is really coming along and has been getting better with each game."
