LAKE CHARLES, La. - Lamar University, who turned in a solid performance in Friday's loss to Nebraska, did not fare any better in losing 4-0 at McNeese State Sunday afternoon in Southland Conference women's soccer action.
Lamar dropped to 0-13-0 overall and 0-3-0 in SLC play. McNeese State improved to 6-3-4 overall and 2-0-1 in SLC play, and remained unbeaten at home. The Lady Cardinals hit the road next weekend with a 4:30 p.m. game at Southeastern Louisiana Friday and a 1 p.m. game at Nicholls State on Sunday.
McNeese started the scoring early when Kamryn Koch scored at 7:52 of the opening stanza. Mayra Torres assisted on the goal. The Cowgirls added a pair of goals right before the first half ended. Ja'Nae Powell scored at 42:47 and Mayra Torres picked up her second assist of the game. Cynthia Torres scored just over a minute later at 43:58 with Erin Leighton picking up the assist, giving McNeese a 3-0 lead at intermission.
Sara Overfelt scored the only goal of the second half at 62:05 with Koch picking up an assist to goal with her goal earlier in the game. Koch led the Cowgirls with six shots, including three on goal. Cynthia Torres had four shot, three of which were on goal.
Carrie Mrazek, a freshman from Corpus Christi, had Lamar's only shot on goal and Stefani Turner, a freshman from Corpus Christi, had one shot for the Lady Cardinals. Kelsie Binetti, a freshman from Lumberton, made seven saves in goal.
McNeese out shot Lamar 21 to two, including 11-1 in shots on goal. The Cowgirls committed 15 fouls compared to eight by Lamar. McNeese had six corner kicks and Lamar had one.
