CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lamar University volleyball team lost their opening game of the Holiday Inn Express Challenge, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, falling to the host Mocs 3-1.
After taking game one 30-28, Chattanooga jumped out to a 17-7 lead in game two and cruised to an easy 30-22 win to take a game two 30-22.
Game three saw UTC make a 13-4 run to take a 22-14 lead, but Lamar raced back to force a fourth game by winning 32-30.
The momentum from the game two win however did not carry over for the Lady Cards, as the Mocs again jumped out to a commanding lead. This time Chattanooga did not allow Lamar to get back into the game, as they held on to their grip for a 30-20 win.
The loss drops Lamar's season record to 2-5, and was the first win for UTC this season.
The Lady Cardinals were led offensively by Buchi Okoh, who knocked down 17 kills, while Molli Abel added 11. Ashley Todd passed out 27 assists for LU, while Adrianne Meengs added 15 assists.
The Lady Cards posted a season-high 102 digs, in the match, led by Alex Brink's 31, while Andrea Hamilton added 20/ Three other Lady Cards posted double digit digs, with Ashley Todd collecting 11 digs for a double-double, while Lauren Rush and Meagan Adams each had 10 digs.
The Mocs were led by Leslie Ball's 20 kills with a .311 hitting percentage, while setter Bethany Herndon passed out a match-high 54 assists.
The Lady Cardinals will be in action again Saturday, as they take on Eastern Kentucky at 10 a.m. (ET) and Birmingham Southern at 3 p.m. (ET).
