BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's basketball team dropped its final home game of the 2006 season Saturday night, falling to the Lady Indians of Louisiana Monroe 64-55 at the Montagne Center.
Lamar led for most of the first half, but a late run by ULM gave the Lady Indians a 32-30 lead at the break. The Lady Cards had held as much as a seven point lead in the first half, before ULM used a 13-4 run over the final 7:45 to take a two point lead.
In the second half the two teams battle back and forth until the eight minute mark, when ULM slowly started to pull away from the Lady Cards.
The Lady Cardinals were led in scoring by senior Jameslon Knowles, who scored a career-high 15 points on five of eight shooting, including three of four from behind the three point arc. Shaquita Coffey chipped in with 13 points while Audrea Samuel added 12.
The Lady Indians were led by Melanie Williams' 14 points while Nedra Winston chipped in with 13.
The Lady Indians won the battle on the boards, out rebounding the Lady Cards 36 to 27, while out shooting Lamar 44.4 percent to 37.76 percent.
The Lady Cardinals will be in action again Wednesday night in Thibodaux, La., when they take on the Nicholls State Lady Colonels at 7 p.m.
