Lamar Women Take Out LSU Shreveport 59-53

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's basketball snapped a two game skid Saturday afternoon by defeating the Lady Pilots of LSU-Shreveport 59-53 at the Montagne Center.

The Lady Cardinals started out slow in Saturday's contest, scoring just 11 points in the first 11 minutes of the game. The Lady Pilots held a two point lead at 13-11 before Alexis Timpone knocked down a three pointer with 8:42 to play to give LU a lead at 14-13. The Lady Cards held the lead for the remainder of the opening period, taking a 28-21 lead into halftime.

The Lady Pilots opened the second half on a 17-9 run over the first nine minutes, taking a one point lead at 38-37. The two teams battled back and forth over the next four minutes, with neither team taking more than a two point lead.

Lamar began to pull away from Shreveport with six minutes to play in the ballgame, as they were able to work the ball inside for several easy buckets by Brittney Williams. The Lady Cardinals opened their lead up to as much as nine points in the closing minutes and held on for a six point win.

The Lady Cardinals were led by Timpone who scored a career-high 22 points on 6-12 shooting. She knocked down four three pointers and was 6-6 from the free throw line, helping to secure the win with all six freebies coming in the final 41 seconds of the game.

Despite a rough game shooting, Williams still posted a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds.

The Lady Pilots were led by Jessica Kelly and Moche Roque who scored 15 and 13 points respectively, while Quan Joseph grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

The Lady Cardinals, who improved to 2-3 with the win, will be in action again on Wednesday night at 7:00 when they take on No.3 ranked Oklahoma at the Montagne Center.
