ARLINGTON - The Lamar University Lady Cardinals basketball team dropped their third straight game Saturday afternoon, falling to the University of Texas-Arlington 78-41 at Texas Hall in Arlington.
The Lady Cardinals struggled to get anything going in the first half, as they turned the ball over 14 times in the opening 20 minutes of play, leading to a 39-15 UTA lead at the break. Lamar calmed down in the second half, turning the ball over just three times, but the 24 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome.
In the second half, the Lady Cardinals were able to find their offense, behind the hot shooting of junior LaToya Carson. Carson knocked down four of her six second half shots, and made 10 of 11 free throws for the game. She was the only Lady Cardinal to score in double digits, as she posted a season-high 24 points.
Arlington was led by Tojjinay Thompson's 20 points while Terra Wallace added 15 points. The Mavs also received double digit scoring from Maryann Abanobi and Ashley Bobb who scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
For the game, the Mavs out rebounded Lamar 44 to 27 in the game, 20 of which came on the offensive glass for Arlington. Another key in the ballgame was the 32 fastbreak and second chance points Arlington was able to score. \ The Lady Cardinals will be in action again Thursday night when they take on the Lady Indians of Louisiana-Monroe at 7 p.m. in Monroe, La.
