Ryan McCarthy was named offensive coordinator in March 2025. He will work directly with the Cardinals’ quarterbacks.
A former Northeast Conference Coach of the Year, McCarthy comes to Beaumont after stops at St. Thomas More College Prep and Boston College. Prior to that McCarthy served as head coach at Central Connecticut State for four seasons taking over the reins after current LU head coach Pete Rossomando’s hire at Rutgers.
McCarthy continued to build on the success of the CCSU program guiding the Blue Devils to an 11-1 (.917) record, a Northeast Conference title (following a perfect league record) and the program’s second NCAA FCS Playoff berth. The Blue Devils climbed as high as 17th in the national polls that season.
McCarthy ended that year as the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Division I Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award (FCS Football’s National Coach of the Year).
Prior to being named head coach, McCarthy served as the Blue Devils offensive coordinator. During his time at CCSU, McCarty’s squads were known for being one of the top offenses in the NEC. During the 2018 season, the Blue Devils led the NEC in scoring (33.8 ppg) and rolled up more than 432 yards per game. He also mentored the school’s all-time leading passer – Jacob Dolegala who would go on to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals – and produced a 1,000-yard rusher (in 2017).
McCarthy moved to New Britain, Conn., from Albany where he spent 10 seasons with the Great Danes serving as quarterbacks coach, pass game coordinator and eventually offensive coordinator. McCarthy also built the NEC’s top scoring offense while at Albany including a 2012 run that saw the Great Danes average better than 34 points per game on their way to a conference title – one of six during his time in Albany.
McCarthy got his start in coaching at the collegiate level in 2003 at Siena College working with the Saints’ quarterbacks. He spent one season at Sienna before moving to Albany where served on staff for the next 10 years.
A Vermont native, McCarthy received his bachelor’s degree from SUNY-Cortland in 2002, where he played quarterback. McCarthy received his master’s degree from Albany in 2004. McCarthy and his wife, Jennifer, have three sons.
