One of the program's top players for the past four years, Nicolas "Nico" Mayr makes the transition to the sidelines this season where he is entering his first season as an assistant coach.
A four-time All-Southland Conference selection, Mayr won more than 80 matches during his Big Red career including nearly 50 wins on the singles courts. As a rookie, he led a contingent that stunned the Southland Conference as a freshman-laden squad rallied down the stretch to win the SLC title and advance to the NCAA Championships. That trip to the championships was the third straight in program history marking the best three-year stretch at LU.Â
A three-time Academic All-Southland Conference selection, the Cardinals just missed out on a second trip to the NCAA Championships by finishing runner-up at the conference tournament. Mayr closed his career by earning first-team all-conference honors (doubles) on the court and was second-team Academic All-SLC in the classroom.
