Tyler Slick joined the Lamar University coaching staff in April 2026. Slick became the fourth addition to head coach Jordan Fee’s first staff.
Slick brings with him 10 years of coaching experience at all levels of the game from the junior college ranks up to NCAA Division I level. Over the course of the past seven seasons, Slick has served on staffs that have helped produce nearly an 81-percent winning percentage. He has also worked on skill development with NBA, WNBA and overseas professional players.
Slick makes his way to the Golden Triangle from Purdue Fort Wayne where he spent the 2025-26 season. He made the jump back to NCAA Division I basketball after spending four seasons on staff at Division II Lincoln Memorial. During his time with the Railsplitters, LMU recorded a 105-24 (.814) record – which included a near perfect 57-1 (.983) mark at home. The Railsplitters won four South Atlantic Conference regular season titles and qualified for the NCAA Division II national tournament all four seasons including an Elite Eight appearance in 2023.
Slick’s first stop at the NCAA Division I level came in August 2020, where he served as a graduate assistant at Memphis. During his lone season with the Tigers, Memphis posted a 20-win season and won their second NIT title in program history.
Prior to his stint in Memphis, Slick served as assistant coach at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D. During his two seasons with NDSCS, the Wildcats won 81 percent of their games (51-12), recorded consecutive 25-win seasons and reached the 2019 NJCAA Division I Region XIII championship game.
Slick’s time in North Dakota came following a season at NCAA Division II Mankato State where he helped lead the Mavericks to a 24-10 (.709) record. Mankato State advanced to the 2018 Division II Men’s Basketball Central Region Championship game – Division II’s Sweet 16.
Slick got his start in collegiate coaching serving as an assistant at NCAA Division III Bethany Lutheran where he served as an assistant for two seasons.
Slick received his bachelor’s degree in 2015 from Mankato State. He has also earned two masters degrees – Masters of Education from Minnesota in 2018 and Masters in Sports Management from Memphis in 2021. Slick, and his wife Dana, are expecting their first child later this summer.
