Tommy Strine was named LU Director of Operations for men's basketball in June 2019. He brings several years of experience to the position.
During Strine's first year with the team, he helped oversee a youthful program (just four returning players from the year before) shock the Southland posting 17 wins an return to the conference tournament for a fourth-straight year. Following the season, Strine received national recognition being named to the Under Armour 30-Under-30 Team, a team which represents 30 of the most outstanding men's college basketball coaches (from all collegiate levels) under the age of 30.
Strine served a similar role at Cleveland State and American University. He comes to Beaumont after spending the previous season in Cleveland working with the Vikings' program. Prior to that, he spent three seasons in Washington D.C. serving as the director of operations for American University.
Strine's coaching career began in 2010 at the club level before taking an assistant's position at Marion (Ind.) High School. He spent one season at MHS before taking an assistant coaching position at Concordia University – Ann Arbor. In that same year, Strine also served as a tryout instructor for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA's developmental league.
Strine received his bachelor's degree from PU Fort Wayne in May 2018 and has completed work toward his master's degree. Strine received his degree after a playing career at NCAA Division III Anderson University. During his time with Anderson, the squad advanced to the 2010 NCAA Championships. The 2010 campaign also marked the first time in program history that Anderson won the Heartland Conference Championship.
