HOUSTON, Texas — Lamar University placed eighth out of 13 teams Tuesday at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club.

The Cardinals recorded 12 birdies and 71 pars in the final round and finished the tournament with 51 birdies and 196 pars.

Matthew Bramford shot even par on the front nine, carding seven pars and a birdie while Freddie Surgey played the back nine at even par with seven pars and a birdie.

Bramford and Rory Bennet paced the Cardinals with three birdies each in the final round.

Bennet highlighted the tournament's second round with an even-par 72, recording five birdies and eight pars.

Filip Widepalm and Nathan Woodham each played the front nine at even par during the second round.

Widepalm carded four birdies on the front side while Woodham posted a bogey-free nine with nine pars.

Competing as an individual, Storm Du Toit finished the tournament's final round at even-par 72.

He shot one-under on the front nine with two birdies and six pars before recording eight pars on the back nine.

The Cardinals finished four strokes behind seventh-place Valparaiso.

Tournament host Rice captured the team title with a 54-hole score of 852 (279-287-284), finishing two strokes ahead of Sam Houston.

Texas' Sterling Hurd and Middle Tennessee's Connor Henry shared medalist honors after each posted a 206.

The pair finished two strokes ahead of Valparaiso's Rob Politza, who placed third individually.
