HOUSTON, Texas — The opening round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic was completed Monday, but a weather delay of 2 hours, 22 minutes prevented the second round from being finished at Westwood Golf Club.

Lamar University sits in seventh place with a team score of 480 through the completed rounds.

Rory Bennett and Nathan Woodham led Lamar in the opening round, each carding a two-under 70.

The Cardinals recorded 22 birdies and 62 pars during the opening round.

Bennett shot two-under on the front nine, posting three birdies and five pars. He played the back nine at even par, recording seven pars and one birdie.

Woodham opened with four consecutive pars and added a birdie to make the turn at even par. He then carded three birdies and six pars on the back nine to finish at two-under.

Freddie Surgey shot one-under on the front nine with three birdies while Matthew Bramford played the back nine at one-under with two birdies.

Bramford and Storm Du Toit, who is competing as an individual, each recorded five birdies in the opening round.

Lamar made 10 birdies before play was suspended during the second round. Bennett led the Cardinals with three birdies, including consecutive birdies on the sixth and seventh holes.

The Cardinals also recorded 45 pars in the second round.

Tournament host Rice led the team standings after the opening round with a score of 279, one stroke ahead of UT Rio Grande Valley.

Competing as an individual, Texas' Sterling Hurd topped the individual leaderboard with a seven-under 65, holding a two-stroke advantage over Houston's Sebastian Gamboa.
