STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Lamar University senior
Kamdyn Jalayer scored her first goal of the season Sunday evening to give the Cardinals the early lead, but Tarleton State would get the equalizer on an own goal in the second half to conclude the match with a 1-1 tie. The Cardinals are currently on a four-match unbeaten streak for the first time since 2025.
The Cardinals took 15 shots, including four on goal, while holding Tarleton to 10.
Kamryn Harvey was credited with the assist on Jalayer's goal.
Eloise Bywater started the match in goal while
Keely Thomas played the entire second half and recorded three saves.
Big Red's defense conceded just three shots to the Texans in the first half, including two which were blocked. LU then capitalized on a Texan miscue in the 17
th minute as Harvey fed the ball to Jalayer, who buried the shot to the right side of the goal for a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals continued to press the attack, but couldn't extend their one-goal edge going into halftime.
As the second half began, Jalayer nearly headed in her second goal off a corner kick in the 48
th minute. Thomas took over for Bywater in goal and began the second with a pair of saves. The Texans got on the scoreboard in the 65
th minute and came close to taking the lead 14 minutes later. LU went on the offensive in the final few minutes, but a pair of shots from
Sofia Wilby and Ekenemi Udofa would not find the back of the net. Time ran out and both teams walked off the field in a tie.
Big Red is set to start September with the first of four straight home matches Thursday against Our Lady of the Lake. Kickoff is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
