BEAUMONT, Texas – Ryela Rodriguez has been named Lamar University Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Partnerships announced Vice President and Director of Athletics
Jeff O'Malley Thursday morning.
"We are very excited to be adding someone of Ryela's character to our department," said O'Malley. "She brings a strong work ethic and a high-energy level to the position. Ryela played a significant role in UT Rio Grande Valley's record-breaking ticket sales over the past few years, and she will be a strong asset as we continue to grow Lamar Athletics."
Rodriguez comes to Beaumont after spending the previous four years at UT Rio Grande Valley, including the previous seven months as assistant athletics director for corporate partnerships, during which time she oversaw the development, growth and management of all UTRGV athletic corporate partners. Prior to that Rodriguez served as assistant AD for fan engagement and group sales.
Rodriguez's time at UTRGV began in 2022 as the ticket sales and operations coordinator and during her four years in the Valley, she received three promotions.
"I want to personally thank University President Dr. Jaime Taylor and Vice President and Director of Athletics
Jeff O'Malley for believing in me for this position," said Rodriguez. "From my first conversations with them, it was clear to me just how special a place Lamar is, and their commitment to students, the community and the future of the department. I'm excited to get started in the championship culture they have started and join the Lamar University family."
Rodriguez got her start in collegiate athletics as a student assistant at Tyler Junior College, before serving as a fan engagement and marketing intern at Baylor. Following her graduation from Baylor, she switched over to a compliance role with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for one season before moving to Edinburg.
