Cardinals rebound with 8-2 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Senior Day

BEAUMONT, Texas — After suffering its first run-rule loss at home since 2018, Lamar University's offense rebounded to salvage the series with an 8-2 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday during Senior Day at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The Cardinals struck first in the opening inning as Hector Rodriguez drove in a run with a single to left for a 1-0 lead.

Starter Travis Lutz retired the first six batters he faced, keeping the Lions' offense in check, and LU extended the margin to 3-0 in the second.

Beau Durbin doubled to right to drive in a run, and A.J. Taylor added an RBI single to left with two outs.

Kevin Duran pushed the lead to four runs in the third with a solo home run off the left field foul pole.

Lutz continued his strong outing by retiring six more batters to preserve the shutout.

LU made it 5-0 in the fifth when Theo Kummer singled through the left side to score a run.

Southeastern Louisiana broke through in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Brody Capps and a wild pitch.

The Cardinals responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Brayden Evans opened the frame with a double to right and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jake Wagoner.

Braden Benton followed with a pinch-hit RBI single, and Durbin later doubled to left center to drive in another run.
