HOUSTON, Texas –
Isabella Flores recorded her team-leading 49
th RBI of the season Saturday, but Lamar University was unable to hold on to an early lead as Houston Christian rallied back to win, 6-3.
The Cardinals end the regular season with a 30-22 overall record and 16-11 in Southland Conference play, which makes them the fifth seed in the upcoming conference tournament. This was also LU's first 30-win season since 2017, but the first 30-win regular season since 2017.
Riley Whitley led the Cardinals with three hits while
Ariel Flores and
Roxy Thompson each drove in an RBI.
Mallory Pitre got the start in the circle and lasted three innings allowing two runs on four hits, but it was
Madison Guidry (2.1 IP, four runs, five hits who was tagged with the loss.
The Cardinals broke out for three runs in the third on an RBI double by Thompson and RBI singles from both Isabella and Ariel. HCU answered with a pair of runs in its half of the third and then tied the game on an error in the fourth, but Guidry kept the go-ahead run stranded at third.
The game stayed tied until the sixth when the Huskies took the lead with three runs. LU put two runners on and brought the tying run to the plate with nobody out to start the seventh, but couldn't get the big hit.
LU will be heading to Hammond, La. to compete in the Southeastern Louisiana portion of the SLC tournament beginning Thursday, Apr. 30
th. Big Red's first round matchup will be against UIW with the game time yet to be determined.
