LAKE CHARLES, La. - Lamar University's top of the order recorded four hits, but was unable to push across a run, falling to McNeese, 8-0, in five innings Saturday at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond Field.

Ariel Flores recorded collected half of the hits while
Gracee Hess and
Isabella Flores doubled in the game. The Cardinals left five runners on base and were 2-of-8 with runners in scoring position. Starting pitcher
Ava Prejean was unable to record an out and departed with the loss allowing three runs on two hits.Â

LU threatened in the first inning with runners at the corners before a double play killed off the rally. In the third, down 4-0, the Cardinals put both Ariel and Isabella on base with two outs, but neither would be brought home after a pop-out ended the frame. The Cowgirls closed out the scoring with a three-run triple in the fifth.

The Cardinals will return to action Tuesday when the travel to Houston Tuesday for a midweek contest against the Cougars. First pitch will be delivered at 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
