Brayden Evans delivers walk-off as Lamar tops Tarleton State, 5-3

BEAUMONT, Texas — Brayden Evans delivered a two-out, two-run walk-off home run to right field in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting Lamar University to a 5-3 victory over Tarleton State on Tuesday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The Cardinals improved to 4-1 in extra-inning games this season and picked up their second walk-off win of the year.

Gage Burdick was dominant, retiring 12 of the 14 batters he faced and striking out the side in the top of the fourth inning.

Lamar struck first in the third inning when Balin Valentine drew a leadoff walk and stole second base.

Valentine later tagged up on a flyout and scored on a sacrifice fly to left from A.J. Taylor.

The Cardinals extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth after Kevin Duran drew a one-out walk and Braden Benton singled through the left side.

Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, setting up Jake Wagoner's RBI single to left field.

Lamar added another run in the fifth inning when Taylor reached second base on a throwing error by the Tarleton State third baseman and came home on an RBI single up the middle from Tab Tracy.

The Texans cut the deficit to one run in the sixth inning, scoring twice on an RBI double down the left-field line by Rayner Heinrich and an RBI infield single from Ike Shirey.

Tarleton State tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the eighth when Jake Tatom drew a bases-loaded walk with one out.

In the bottom of the 10th, Lamar was down to its final out before Cade Pregeant kept the inning alive with a single through the right side.

Evans followed with the walk-off blast, sending the pitch 373 feet over the wall in right field to seal the victory.
