NEWARK, N.Y. – It was a tough ending to an otherwise successful trip for the Lamar University Cardinals. Big Red posted a 3-2 (.600) record after falling to NJIT, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic Facility. It was the team's fifth match in four days.
NJIT took an early one-point lead with victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. With the point secured, the two teams halted play on court 3, where the Cardinals held a 5-3 lead in the ninth game.
The Cardinals got two quick victories in singles play –
Leon Nickel (No. 1) and
Louis Drapeau (No. 6) – but Lamar struggled to string wins together after those two. The Cardinas return to action Saturday, Mar. 21
st, when they return to Southland Conference play. LU will travel to host New Orleans. The match is set for a 10 a.m. start.
