RUSTON, La. — Lamar University's pitching staff combined to throw a one‑hitter in a 6-0 victory over Louisiana Tech on Tuesday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The shutout was LU's first against Louisiana Tech since April 22, 1995.
Hector Rodriguez drew a two‑out walk in the second inning and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Balen Valentine then delivered an RBI single to center to put the Cardinals on the board.
Louisiana Tech recorded its lone hit in the fourth on a single to left‑center by Matt Houston.
Hayden Stallings ended the inning with a strikeout as the Bulldogs stranded two runners.
LU sent 10 batters to the plate in the eighth inning.
Braden Benton opened the frame with a walk, and
Colby Christian entered to pinch run.
Christian advanced from first to third on a throwing error by the first baseman during a fielder's choice off the bat of
Beau Durbin.
Theo Kummer brought in a run with a fielder's choice to short, and
Brayden Evans followed with a double down the left field line.
Rodriguez then ripped a two‑RBI double down the left field line to extend the lead to 4-0.
Valentine added the third straight hit of the inning with a single to center, setting up runners at the corners, and
Easton Culp capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Cardinals opened the ninth with three consecutive singles from Durbin,
Lane Sparks and Evans.
Rodriguez brought in a run on a double‑play grounder.
From the fifth inning on, Louisiana Tech managed only five baserunners, all via walks.
