SAN ANTONIO, Texas — After enduring another frost delay to begin Day 2 of competition at the Military City Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon at TPC San Antonio's Canyons Course, the Lamar University men's golf team ended up finishing ninth out of 12 teams.
The Cardinals shot the three-round total score of 906 (302-292-312) to finish one stroke behind Western Kentucky in eighth place.
Round 2 of competition was cut short due to darkness as six teams were unable to finish.
LU tallied 17 birdies and one eagle in the second round.
Nathan Woodham shot two under (70) with a flawless front nine making two birdies and seven pars.
David Schneider Jerez had three straight birdies to begin the second round to shoot two under on the front nine.
Rory Bennet had two birdies and six pars to shoot one under on the back nine while
Matthew Bramford had two birdies to shoot even par on the final nine holes.
Fermin Martinez also recorded even par on the back nine with five pars and one birdie.
Filip Widepalm, who competed as an individual, tallied an eagle on the second hole to finish even par (72) for the round.
He wrapped up the back nine making six consecutive pars.
During the third round, the Cardinals made 12 birdies and one eagle.
Bennet began the back nine with eight consecutive pars while Schneider tallied two birdies and five pars to finish the back nine at even par.
LU had eight birdies on the front nine.
Woodham carded an eagle on the first hole while he went on to birdie the second hole.
Widepalm started the front nine with five pars and one birdie to shoot even par to solidify himself a spot in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard.
UTSA, the tournament host, captured first place with a four-stroke lead over UT Rio Grande Valley after finishing with a total score of 881 (300-282-299).
Joshua Hong of UTSA won the individual title with a total score of 215 (69-72-74), holding a one-stroke lead over Abilene Christian's Thomas Buisson and UT Arlington's Arth Sinha.
