ARLINGTON, Texas — Kevin Duran gave the Lamar University baseball team a 2-0 lead in the top of the first against the UT Arlington Mavericks.

The Mavericks scored seven runs across two innings to pull away for the 10-2 victory at Clay Gould Ballpark during Game 1 on Friday night.

After Beau Durbin reached on a leadoff single up the middle, Tab Tracy and Braden Benton drew back-to-back walks.

Kevin Duran stepped up and delivered a two RBI single to left.

LU left seven runners stranded over the next eight innings while tallying six hits.

The Mavericks got a run back with a solo home run by Noah Fields in the bottom of the second.

UT Arlington tied up the game in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly to center by Xander McAfee.

The momentum shifted over to the Mavericks in the top bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to left off the bat of Austin Phillips.

UT Arlington rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh after sending nine batters to the plate and tallying five hits, extending the lead to 7-2.
