LAREDO, Texas — After a solid second round finish and rising to second place, the Lamar University men's golf team finished in a three-way tie for fifth Tuesday during the final round of the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club.
LU shot a collective score of 861 (291-279-291) to finish two strokes behind fourth place Wichita State.
This was LU's first top five finish at the competition since 2022.
Nathan Woodham shot three under par (68) for the round to finish tied for fourth overall, making four birdies and 13 pars. He closed out the day shooting two under on the back nine.
Woodham recorded his second top five finish of his career with his last coming in 2024.
The Cardinals tallied 16 birdies, 11 of which came on the back nine. Seven birdies were recorded on the final three holes.
On the sixth hole, six Cardinals came out with a par while
Matthew Bramford had a birdie. LU also favored the 13th hole, making three birdies and four pars in the final round.
David Schneider Jerez finished even par (71), shooting two under on the back nine. He made four of his five birdies on the final nine holes.
LU made the second most birdies at the tournament with 52.
Houston, the tournament host and 50th ranked team in the nation, won the competition with a two-stroke lead over Tarleton State and North Texas in second place.
Hudson Weibel of Houston claimed the top spot on the individual leaderboard with a total score of 205 (70-68-67).
Weibel held a two-stroke lead over Wichita State's Jose Ramirez in second.
