BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University right-hander
Chris Olivier continues to collect accolades following his standout performance against Oakland University in Game 1 last week.
Olivier was named to Baseball America's Week 1 College Team of the Week on Tuesday morning after throwing a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts over 6.2 innings in the Cardinals' 8-2 win.
Moments later, Olivier was named a Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
He retired the first 19 batters he faced and carried a perfect game into the seventh inning. Olivier did not allow a walk and struck out the leadoff hitter in every inning. Only one Oakland batter sent a ball out of the infield, a flyout to center in the sixth.
His 14 strikeouts left him three shy of tying the program's single-game record and matched the third-highest total in a game since 2016.
Olivier was also named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week and earned the No. 1 spot on
D1Baseball.com's Weekend 1 Top Performers: Top 100 Pitchers list after recording more strikeouts than any pitcher nationally.
