Lamar Ending Road Trip on the Island

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University will look to end its three-game road trip on a positive note as it will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday at the Hilliard Center. The game will start at 1 p.m. and be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on Newstalk 560 KLVI. 
 
PREVIOUSLY
The Cardinals (14-9, 11-5 SLC) were unable to contain a red-hot shooting performance by UT Rio Grande Valley in a 75-53 loss at the UTRGV Fieldhouse Thursday. Shaila Forman led LU with 15 points while Kamryn Wilson scored 12. 
 
STILL MANAGED TO PUNCH OUR TICKET
The Cardinals were able to punch their ticket to the Southland Conference tournament following Houston Christian's loss to Nicholls Thursday. Since head coach Aqua Franklin's arrival, Big Red has been in the conference tournament every year but 2022, when the Cardinals were in the Western Athletic Conference. 
 
FREE THROWS WERE EFFICIENT 
The Cardinals converted a season-high 89.5 percent (17-of-19) from the free throw line. This was the second time this season that LU made over 80 percent in a game. The first time was when the Cardinals recorded 85.7 percent (12-of-14) against Southeastern Louisiana.
 
LAST TIME VS. TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI
The Cardinals took down A&M-Corpus Christi, 77-49, in their last meeting at Neches Arena. T'Aaliyah Miner scored a career-high 17 points while Solenne Olenga (12) and Shaila Forman (11) also reached double figures. LU is 26-13 all-time against the Islanders and is 10-6 at the Hilliard Center.
 
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-19, 3-13 SLC) is coming off a 93-51 loss to Stephen F. Austin Thursday. The Islanders average 57.2 points per game while giving up 69.2 to the opposition. Samora Watson remains the team's leading scorer with 12.3 ppg.
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals are back home at Neches Arena as they will host Nicholls Thursday. The ball is scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m and the game will stream on ESPN+.
