Big Red Reaches 100-Point Mark in Opening Game Victory

BEAUMONT, Texas – Kennedi Alexander scored 24 points off the bench as Lamar University opened the 2026-27 season with a 104-35 victory over Louisiana Christian on Monday evening at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center. The Cardinals reached the 100-point mark for the first time since Nov. 8, 2023, when they scored 108 against Texas College.

Alexander shot 9-of-13 from the field and finished two rebounds shy of a double-double. Solenne Olenga added 16 points and six rebounds, while Jacei Denley (11) and Jordan Pete (10) combined for 21.

Lamar shot 50 percent from the field (37-of-74), including 10 three-pointers. The Cardinals dominated the paint, netting 50 points, including 21 on the fast break and 48 off of 40 Wildcat turnovers. LCU was limited to 11 field goals and shot 22.4 percent from the floor.

Olenga scored the opening four points to key a 9-0 run in the first quarter. LCU's only field goal during that stretch came with 6:50 remaining in the period, but the Cardinals answered with a 27-0 run that extended into the second quarter. Big Red shot 50 percent (19-of-38) from the field in the first half taking a 55-12 lead into halftime.

After outscoring the Wildcats by four points in the third, Lamar dominated the final period, posting a 25-3 advantage while shooting 61.1 percent from the field. Alexander scored 16 of her points after halftime, connecting on seven of her eight field-goal attempts in the second half.

The Cardinals open a two-game road trip Thursday against UT Arlington at College Park Center. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
