FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University junior guard
Rob Lee, Jr. has been named Southland Conference Player of the Week announced league officials Monday afternoon. Lee becomes the first Cardinal this season to receive the award.
A native of Flint, Mich., Lee has put together the two best consecutive games of his young Lamar career beginning with a career-high 31 points and seven rebounds in the win over Houston Christian. Lee followed that with a 20-point outing in the Cardinals' win at then Southland co-leader Nicholls Saturday.
For the week, Lee averaged 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game all while shooting 15-of-22 (.682) from the field and 8-of-11 (.727) from three-point range. Just for good measure, he was a perfect 13-of-13 from the stipe in the two games.
Lee scored 24 of his career-high 31 points in the second half against HCU as Lamar rallied for the win and go 2-0 on the week. The surging Cardinals have won three straight and five of their last seven to sit alone in fifth place in the conference standings just a game back of fourth.
The Cardinals return to action Monday evening with a 7 p.m. game at New Orleans. With a win Monday Lamar (10-8/5-4 SLC) can put itself in a strong position as the Red and White will then return home for four consecutive home games.
