BEAUMONT, Texas — The fall portion of the 2025-2026 season is set to begin Sunday for the Lamar University men's golf team.

The Cardinals travel to the three-day Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La.

RECAPPING LAST SEASON

LU finished fourth at the Southland Conference tournament.

The Cardinals had two individuals place in the top 10 as Matthew Bramford tied for fifth while David Schneider Jerez tied for ninth.

Schneider capped off the season earning second team All-Southland Conference honors after playing in 36 rounds with a team-best 73.2 scoring average.

He recorded two top 10 finishes while he tallied a team-best six rounds of par or better.

Nathan Woodham finished second on the team in scoring with a 74.1 average while Matthew Bramford was third with an average of 74.6.

PLENTY OF EXPERIENCE

The Cardinals return the entire roster from last season as the squad boasts five upperclassmen and four underclassmen under head coach Jessie Mudd who enters his 10th season.

LU added freshman Toby Peters, a native of Essex, England.

Peters got to participate in the Jacques Léglise Trophy event at the Royal Golf Club in Belgium, which is an amateur competition where Great Britain and Ireland team up to take on the Continent of Europe.

According to the World Amateur Golf Ranking website, Peters finished in the top 10 eight times while he tallied six top five finishes.

Peters won the Peter McEvoy Trophy event as well as the 2025 County Golf Colleges World Amateur Golf Ranking tournament.

ARGENT FINANCIAL CLASSIC

This is the 10th time since 2003 that the Cardinals are competing at the Argent Financial Classic.

LU's best finish came in 2010 when it placed third.

Squire Creek Country Club is Louisiana Tech's home course. The private, members-only course opened in 2002.

The par 72, 18-hole championship course sits at 7,105 yards.

Troy took home the team title in 2024 after it shot up the leaderboard from fifth to first, holding off Houston by two strokes.

Lukas Boandl of Rice was the individual medalist after carding a total score of 206 (75-73-68).

This year's participants include Louisiana Tech, Houston, UL Lafayette, North Texas, South Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Rice, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky, UAB, Nicholls, UL Monroe, Troy, Memphis, UTSA, LSU (individuals only) and Jacksonville State.

Tee time on Sunday and Monday is at 7:30 a.m. while Tuesday's action begins at 8 a.m.
