Cardinals Playing Host to Houston Christian Thursday

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University looks to end a string of draws as it returns home to take on Houston Christian Thursday at the LU Soccer Complex. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start and will be streamed on ESPN+. 
 
PREVIOUSLY
Lamar recorded another 2-2 draw, this time against UIW, Sunday. Lauren Smith and Cena Carlson each scored for LU with assists from Marissa Gross and Riley Wilson respectively. Freshman goalkeeper Eloise Bywater picked up four saves in the match. 
 
NOW THAT'S OFFENSIVE 
The Cardinals currently have the best offense in the entire Southland Conference. LU is first with 23 goals and 23 assists for a total of 69 points, which is nine better than UT Rio Grande Valley.  Big Red shares the conference lead for scoring first in six matches. The Cardinals are currently 3-1-2 when scoring first and have posted 13 goals in the first half.
 
ALL-TIME vs. HOUSTON CHRISTIAN
The Cardinals are 8-3-4 all-time against Houston Christian. Last season, the two sides played to a scoreless draw. Over the previous eight meetings, the Cardinals have outscored the Huskies, 17-3.  
 
ABOUT HOUSTON CHRISTIAN
The Huskies' last contest resulted in a scoreless draw with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. HCU is undefeated in the last four matches having secured wins over Southern, Prairie View A&M and Louisiana Tech.   
 
AND THE EMMY GOES TO
Despite appearing in half of HCU's 10 games, Emmy McKeon is among the top goalkeepers in the Southland Conference. She is third in the conference in goals against average (1.40) and save percentage (.788). 
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals head down south to Corpus Christi Thursday, Oct. 2nd, for a meeting with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and will be streamed on ESPN+.
