BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University opened the 2025 season with a 3-0 victory over Blinn College in an exhibition contest Monday at the LU Soccer Complex. The Cardinals competed in three 30-minute periods as they outshot the Buccaneers 30-4. 

Riley Wilson, Lauren Smith, and Erin Dull each found the back of the net for the Cardinals. Smith also led LU with four shots while Kam Jalayer added three shots. In goal, Eloise Bywater netted one save in 59 minutes while Maddie Rich finished out the contest to complete the shutout. 

Wilson (9th minute) and Smith (26th minute) put the Cardinals on top 2-0 in the first period, which saw them take 11 out of the 13 shots. 

LU's defense held the Buccaneers without a shot in the second period while Dull tallied the third goal in the 41st minute. The Cardinals allowed two shots in the final period, but kept Blinn off the scoreboard to post the shutout. 

Big Red will head out to Baton Rouge, La., Saturday to take on LSU for its second exhibition contest. The game will kick off at 6 p.m.
