Cardinals Meeting Sam Houston in Final August Match

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar is looking to end August with a win as it heads to Huntsville, Texas Sunday to take on former Southland foe Sam Houston. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. from Pritchett Field and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Lamar battled a tough UC Davis squad to a scoreless draw Thursday. Big Red held the Aggies to a season-low eight shots, including just three in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Eloise Bywater was stellar in net recorded her first shutout of her collegiate career with two saves. 

It's a Pecking Defense
LU is currently third in the Southland Conference with a 1.5 goals against average following Thursday night's contest. The shutout was also the 28th in the Nathan Kogut era, which is currently the second most of any Cardinal coach behind Steve Holeman (2016-21), who coached the Cardinals to 40 shutouts. 

All-Time vs. Sam Houston
LU is 9-10-1 all-time against the Bearkats, including a current four-game winning streak in which Big Red outscored its current opponent 7-3. Last season, the Cardinals came away 2-1 winners in Beaumont. Kamryn Harvey scored one of the two goals with Cena Carlson dishing out the assist. Caragan Childs has been on the field for 180 minutes in the last two games. 

About the Bearkats
The Bearkats recently earned their first win of the season by a 3-2 score over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Tiana Johnson scored one of the goals and leads SHSU with two for the season, along with eight shots. Katie Bahn, who posted four saves in the win, now has a GAA of 1.67.

LU will host the first of four straight home contests as it battles Rice Sunday, Sept. Sep. 7th. That match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
